How Equipment Hire Works

KimTech makes AAC equipment hire simple, allowing speech pathologists, occupational therapists, support coordinators and families to trial AAC and assistive technology equipment before making a purchasing decision.

Whether you're looking to compare AAC apps, trial a communication device, trial a switch interface or explore mounting options, the process is straightforward. This guide explains how equipment hire works, what's included, funding options and what happens from your initial request through to returning the equipment.

Have a question about funding, delivery, extensions, AAC apps or equipment returns? Visit the Frequently Asked Questions page for more detailed information.

Step 1: Choose the equipment you'd like to trial

Browse the Equipment Catalogue and select the AAC or assistive technology equipment you'd like to trial.

Not sure what you need? Feel free to contact me and I'll do my best to help.

Step 2: Complete the Hire Request Form

Complete the online Hire Request Form and list the equipment you'd like to hire.

You can request:

  • AAC apps
  • iPads
  • Switches
  • Communication devices
  • Mounts
  • Accessories
  • Keyguards

Step 3: Receive a quote

Once I receive your request, I'll prepare a quote and send it to:

  • you
  • your client
  • their family
  • or their support coordinator

depending on your preference.

Step 4: Approve the quote

Once approval is received, I'll prepare the equipment and send it to you, usually within a week.

All equipment is shipped with:

  • protective packaging
  • a pre-paid return label

Step 5: Start the trial

When the equipment arrives, simply let me know when the trial begins.

The hire period starts from the date your client begins using the equipment so they receive the full trial period.

Hire periods are usually:

  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 3 months

If you need longer, extensions can usually be arranged.

Step 6: Trial the equipment in real-life situations

I encourage clients to use equipment across all environments including:

  • home
  • school or kindergarten
  • therapy sessions
  • community activities

Any accidental loss or damage during the hire period is covered by KimTech.

Step 7: Return or extend the hire

At the end of the trial you can either:

Return the equipment

  • Pack it back into the original packaging.
  • Attach the pre-paid return label.
  • Lodge it with Australia Post.

Extend the hire

  • Simply let me know before the end of the hire period.
  • I'll arrange an extension.

Hiring an iPad with AAC Apps

An iPad with AAC apps is:

  • $150 per month
  • $55 delivery and return postage
  • One-off setup fee of $193.99

The setup fee includes:

  • Removal of the previous hirer's data
  • Factory reset and iOS updates
  • Installation of requested AAC apps
  • Logging into subscription accounts such as Grid for iPad and Proloquo
  • Voice installation and updates
  • Loading page sets and grid layouts

The setup fee does not include individual vocabulary customisation.

Trial Multiple AAC Apps

You can request multiple AAC apps on the same iPad at no additional hire cost.

For example, you might choose:

  • TD Snap
  • TouchChat
  • LAMP Words for Life

while paying the same monthly hire fee.

Keyguards

KimTech designs and manufactures custom 3D-printed keyguards.

You can:

  • trial a keyguard with your client
  • purchase a custom keyguard
  • request multiple keyguards for comparison

If you'd like to trial a keyguard, I can provide one free of charge for your nominated AAC app and grid layout.

Funding Information

For NDIS participants:

  • Hire fees and delivery costs are typically claimed from Consumables (Core) or Assistive Technology funding.
  • The one-off setup fee is typically claimed under Capacity Building using the Speech Pathology support item.

If you're unsure which funding category applies, don't worry — I can usually assist with this. You can also find answers to common funding and invoicing questions in the Frequently Asked Questions page.
